Where is the emperor?

Imperium: Aeternum Emperor and Imperium: Aeternum Wars are grand strategy games, allowing you to forge an empire that span continents. In previous updates two types of leaders have been implemented; generals to lead your armies and governors to rule your cities.

But who rules the empire? Where is the emperor?

For this weekend I plan to release the update that was discussed in my previous blog post. An updated pathfinder that hopefully will decrease the mid to late game lag when lots of armies block the path of each other, and a few new features for the editor that is being alpha tested, Imperium: Aeternum Creation.

I’ve been considering the next step the last week. One option I considered is the implementation of populations in cities making manpower more interesting. A second option I considered is the implementation of government types. But then I remembered that I never really completed the implementation of leaders. Yes, we got generals and governors, but where is the emperor and his court?

For the next update, which looks to be a major feature update, my plan is to add emperors, heirs and advisors, that will influence the whole empire. Similar to how generals and governors affect armies and cities. As the skills and abilities of these new leader types will have such a profound effect on the game I will most likely also have to re-balance all projects and technologies.

The emperor and heir will have the same skill set, working similarly as generals and governors with experience and skill levels. This is not 100 % set in stone, but I am considering the following three skills:

  • Court – Gives bonuses (or penalties) to relation values of other empires when their language have been translated.
  • Popularity – A popular emperor will increase the loyalty in the whole empire. Yeah, you can imagine the result of a emperor that is hated by the population in the empire. This effect might decrease with the distance to the capital.
  • Strategy – Gives bonuses (or penalties) to the combat values of all armies.

Each empire may have up to three advisors in the Imperial court. My idea is that each advisor will have 1 ability that boost one aspect of the empire. There will be 6 different abilities meaning that the court will not have all abilities at the same time. Advisors can be replaced, or perhaps made to become heirs if the current heir dies, or is a lazy unpopular kid with no promise?

I’m still designing the system but it will be a great addition to the Imperium Sine Fine saga!

Thank you for your support over the years! If you enjoy the Imperium Sine Fine series of games, please head over to the Play store and give them a great rating!

Cheers!
